Travis Hunter of Colorado has claimed the 2024 Heisman Trophy, edging out Ashton Jeanty of Boise State in a closely contested race.

Travis Hunter, a versatile two-way star who played nearly 1,400 snaps on offense and defense while leading Colorado to five more wins in 2024 than the previous season, won the Heisman Memorial Trophy on Saturday as college football's most outstanding player.

Hunter is the second Heisman winner in Colorado's history, following running back Rashaan Salaam in 1994. His victory broke the quarterback dominance of the award, with 20 of the last 23 winners being QBs. Since 2000, only Alabama's Mark Ingram (2009), Derrick Henry (2015), and DeVonta Smith (2020) have won as non-quarterbacks alongside Hunter.

Hunter earned 552 first-place votes and 2,231 total points, outpacing Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (309, 2,017 points). Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward finished third and fourth, respectively. Hunter appeared on 93.32% of ballots and won five of six voting regions.

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was fifth, followed by Army quarterback Bryson Daily, Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke and Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord completed the top 10.

Hunter's exceptional season included winning the Biletnikoff Award (best receiver), Bednarik Award (best defensive player), Hornung Award (most versatile player for the second consecutive year), Walter Camp Award (most outstanding player), and Associated Press Player of the Year honors. However, he was notably not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back, sparking criticism from his coach, Deion Sanders.
