Three Dead, Nine Injured in Wisconsin Christian School Shooting

Three people were killed and nine others injured on Monday during a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, a private facility in Madison, Wisconsin. Authorities say the shooter, who has not been identified, was a child.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes did not release information about the victims following the 10:57 a.m. incident at the 28-acre campus, which houses a daycare and Kindergarten through 12th-grade programs.

“Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever,” Barnes said.

Barnes noted that police officers responding to the scene did not discharge their weapons, and medics were able to quickly provide care, as they had been in the middle of a nearby training session when the shooting occurred.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the shooter used a 9mm pistol.

The school, founded in 1978, serves about 200 families from 56 churches across the greater Dane County area. In a Facebook post, the school requested prayers:

“Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family.”

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said he was closely monitoring the situation.

“We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond,” Evers said.

Wisconsin State Superintendent Jill Underly called the tragedy a heartbreaking reminder of the need for stronger protections in schools.

“This tragedy is a stark reminder that we must do more to protect our children and our educators to ensure that such horrors never happen again,” Underly said. “We will not rest until we find solutions that make our schools safe.”

Federal agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting local authorities in the investigation.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
