Nancy Pelosi Hospitalized After Injury During Official Trip to Luxembourg

Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, has been hospitalized following an injury sustained during an official visit to Luxembourg, her office announced on Friday.

US media reported that Pelosi fractured her hip after tripping on a staircase at an event, citing unnamed sources unauthorized to speak publicly. Spokesperson Ian Krager confirmed in a statement that Pelosi is "currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals."

Pelosi, who represents California in the House, was in Luxembourg as part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The trip included 17 other House members and events involving veterans, their families, and military officials, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson's office. Pelosi, however, will not be able to participate further in the activities due to her injury.

Despite her hospitalization, Pelosi "looks forward to returning home to the US soon" and continues to work from the hospital, Krager added.

The San Francisco congresswoman remains a towering figure in US politics, with a career spanning seven presidential administrations. She first served as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and reclaimed the role in 2019, holding it until 2023 after two separate four-year terms. Though stepping down as Speaker, Pelosi continues to serve in the House, having been re-elected to a new two-year term last month.

Her injury comes shortly after another high-profile political fall, as outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, suffered a sprained wrist and facial cuts following a fall at the US Capitol earlier this week.
